Nationalize BP

British Petroleum is now a candidate for nationalization because it has consistently lied. A question of more than just bad or no PR. Lies. And it deserves more than just a slap on the wrist. The US government should take over BP and all of its related US assets.

Where The Lies Started
It started with BP estimating the oil coming out was maybe one thousand barrels a day.  Why does this matter? Under the liability law, the more the oil, the higher the fine.

More Lies
Next, BP underestimated the scope of the potential damage.  At over 50 days, independent scientists now say 40 thousand barrels a day have been flowing out of the well-head.

And those independent scientists were kept from their investigations for over a month.

Even video of the well-head had to be demanded by Congress, and at first, all we got was a 30 second loop. The new HD video also had to be pried from BP by angry letters from US Senators.

Workers Forced To Break The Rules
BP claimed in documents submitted to the US government that because the oil rig that exploded, killing 11 workers, sinking  and bleading oilt--because it was  so far out, no oil would ever hit the shore.

Relatives of the dead and living employees say BP was putting the lives of their loved-ones in danger using short-cuts. Investigations will find out the truth about that. Meanwhile, no BP representative has even called any of the families of the dead men to even see 'how ya doin'.

They're all lawyered-up alright to take on the folks who have lost their family members. Are you disgusted? You should be.

Bribes
Next, it was learned the oil company gave expensive gifts to US regulators, who as it turned out, signed-off on an emergency clean-up plan that said BP had everything in-hand to ensure walrus's and similar arctic animals would be protected.

There hasn't been an arctic seal or Walrus in the Gulf of Mexico for 12 thousand years or longer.

No Clean-Up Technology
Then of course, there are the oil soaking booms BP has put out on the water. They're not working. So oil is lapping up on the shores of Louisiana, and Florida, with oil expected to hit the Hampton's sometime later this year on the Atlantic coast.

In other words, since the Exxon Valdez incident 25 years ago (and this one is already 5 times worse) no new technology has been developed to stop oil from destroying sensitive environments. BP hasn't spent a dime to find new clean-up technologies.

Keep in mind, when there was a major spill in the Arabia Gulf several years ago, cargo tankers with huge vacuum machines were on the spot, and helped mitigate a disaster. Not so here, because BP says there are already too many ships in the US Gulf coast area, and it would take too long to modify the ships anyway.

In addition to the blatant lies, BP has attempted several stop-gap approaches to stop the oil, which any moron could have told them was not going to work.

With oil coming out of the darn hole at several thousand pounds of pressure per second, the idea was to land a module on top of the tube, and then eventually get a line down over the module to collect the oil.

Didn't work. It is a mile below the surface, and ice formed.

Next, the idea was to force mud and then cement into the tube. Uh huh. Imagine your bath-tub spout running at full bore, and then closing it with mud. You get the idea.

Keeping Reporters Away
Next, BP has hired security guards to stop reporters from talking with clean-up crews. The company has said that 'isn't so', although reporters on the scene can tell you it is so.

Then the President of BP complains he wants his life back. Ya right. Feel for ya brother.

Then BP spends $50 million on an ad campaign with the same wounded President saying 'we'll make it right'.

People like oyster fishermen whose livelihoods are sending in claims, only to be told they don't qualify, or given so much paper-work, even a Wall Street lawyer would have problems going through.

Backing Off From Liability
Now the BP President is saying under the law, his company can't be held for all the costs involved. The company he says is only responsible for the clean-up, not the industries and ways of life destroyed.

Nationalize Em.
BP has done nothing but lie. Why? Because every step they have taken has been with the idea of preserving the oil for another well. The so-called top-kill and even the digging of 'relief wells' have all been done with the idea of preserving profits for the future.

They've bribed officials, lied about the extent of the problem, and done nothing to alleviate the suffering of people whose jobs are now gone forever.

Given the pattern of untruth, technical incompetence, nationalization is the only option to get the profits from our natural resource, and recompense those adversely effected. To 'make it right' in the words of the BP President..
